The issue is discussed by ten researchers in a new
publication edited by Atle Midttun (professor at the Norwegian School of
Management in Oslo) and Nina Witoszek (professor at the University of
Oslo). The document was presented at this year's annual meeting of the
World Economic Forum in Davos.
The Nordic Model entails what can seem like
paradoxes: the combination of prosperity with equality, productive
capitalism with comprehensive welfare arrangements, collectivism with
individual freedoms. In an economic and a welfare perspective the model
is a success. The question is whether it is exportable to other
countries, or if it is grounded in cultural values that are particular
to the Nordic societies. Another question is whether the model is
sustainable, faced with new challenges such as climate change and
immigration. These and more issues are discussed by ten researchers in
the publication "The Nordic Model: Is it Sustainable and Exportable?"
